All the World's a Stage...Stage Performance Q&A
Nov 3, 2009
Michael and fiancée Rachelle Reichert sat down and answered questions fans had for them.
How/when/where did you meet?
We've wanted to be able to answer these questions thoroughly, and this is an important one! It was magic that brought us together...literally! I'd been invited to Lance Burton's 10 year anniversary show and wanted to invite someone to go with me though the actual show was over a month away. I didn't want it to be an uncomfortable date, in fact I wasn't even really interested in dating at that time. A friend of mine suggested I ask a friend of hers, Rachelle. When our friend suggested the idea to her, Rachelle appreciated the offer but flatly said no because she was also not interested in dating, then. Our friend worked on convincing Rachelle that it would be good for her to get out and that it really wasn't going to be a traditional date - all to no avail. Nonetheless, and unbeknownst to either Rachelle or me, our friend gave me Rachelle's number and said Rachelle might be interested. I then left Rachelle a message that perhaps she would want to come watch our friend in a showcase I'd directed the next week, thus getting our first meeting over with so that Lance's show could just be a laid back and relaxed evening. Rachelle was shocked to get the message since she'd already said "no" to our friend, but says there was something in my voice that sparked her interest and put her at ease that I indeed was not turning this into a "date". So, we agreed to meet on May 9th, 2006 at the UNLV Spring Acting Showcase...and the rest is history. We both fell head over heels fast, and the funny thing is, by the time Lance's show rolled around, we were quite seriously in love.
What first attracted you to each other?
Well, the first words I said to Rachelle as I walked up to her were: "You are so beautiful." Thank God she didn't just take that as a line because that's not what it was meant to be. I think we felt an inexplicable openness and trust. We appreciated (and obviously still do) each other's honesty and integrity. We loved that we shared so much in common from our passion for theater and film to the importance of family and friends to more trivial past-times for us being sports and working out, travel plans, reading...we even have similar tastes in music from the 50's and 60's!
How did you begin dating? Who asked who out? First date? First kiss?
(see question #1) After the UNLV showcase we wanted a chance to be able to talk more. We decided to go to a restaurant over-looking Las Vegas and talked for hours, and we now consider it "our place". At the end of the night I walked Rachelle to her car and gave her a kiss on her forehead. We'd already planned to see each other again.
Favorite things to do together?
We love spending time together even though busy schedules sometime make it difficult. We enjoy movies, plays, dance concerts, sporting events, traveling, working out...even just relaxing at home with good conversation and a nice glass of wine.
Describe your ideal date night.
I think our ideal date night is to see a great play and enjoy a romantic dinner. We also like to dance but don't so much care for noisy nightclubs, as we appreciate more intimate lounges and martini bars.
Where is Rachelle from? What family does she have?
Rachelle is from Billings, Montana, and attended the University of MT in Missoula. Her dad passed away from leukemia when she was three years old, but her mom still lives in Montana, as does her step-father, grandma, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She also has an older brother living in Germany and a twin brother in Seattle, WA.
Tell us about the proposal?
We planned on getting married very early on and actually almost eloped, but knew we wanted to do it "right". We decided after about a year to go and pick out a ring together. Our Catholic faith is important to us. Rachelle decided to go through the RCIA program at our church and is now confirmed, and I decided to pursue an annulment through the church. We have been together almost 3 1/2 years, now, and love each other more than ever. We hope to marry soon! (note. Michael and Rachelle were married on Jan 10th 2010)
With our future the sky's the limit...so let's see!
Opposites attract and birds of a feather flock together. Which one do you think is more true for you two?
For the most part, birds of a feather flock together.
As a follow up to the last one, in which ways are you alike and in which ways are you different?
Well, we've kind of already addressed how we're alike as far as our tastes, interests, and overall philosophies and attitudes towards life. I think we're both risk-takers but sometimes approach the risks in different ways. I tend to be bold with first steps and then take a minute to collect my thoughts. Rachelle likes to think things through in the beginning, but if she comes to a decision, she is ready to remain steadfast. We are both Libras, so we're pretty good about keeping each other balanced!
If you participated in the following tv shows as a couple, how far do you think you would get? Why?
The Amazing Race: Well, Rachelle's initial response to this one is that we would win hands down. We're both very competitive and we know we're an unstoppable team. However, my idea of roughing it...in the wild...well...is there room service and cable T.V.?!
Dancing With The Stars: Rachelle IS a trained dancer (although not ballroom technique), and I am NOT a dancer. I really don't know, but it would be interesting and we'd have fun!!
